Frost Queen

Jacket: Ebay
Dress and shoes: thrifted
Tights: American Apparel

This is an outfit that worked really well with my lack of eyebrows. One of my friends told me I looked like a frost queen, which is always an ideal look. Rosy cheeks, pale lips, and bleached brows are the way to go in winter.

Do Not Enter The Dog Park

Jacket: thrifted/diy
Pants: American Apparel
Shirt: Welcome to Night Vale merch
Boots: Dr. Martens
Hat: very old and I don't remember
Lipstick: Portland Black Lipstick Co.

Here I am looking real jaunty in my winter layers. I've decided to start documenting my more casual outfits because 1) I think they're still pretty cute, and 2) if I only post my fanciest outfits on here, it's not really an accurate representation of my style. Sometimes you just have to wear a t-shirt and jeans, you know? Plus this will hopefully motivate me to make my casual outfits look good too. I'm starting to accumulate a bunch of clothes that are practical and comfortable but still stylish, and it makes me a lot more excited to get dressed in the morning. This isn't to say that I won't still wear giant shoulder pads and floor-sweeping skirts, I'll just look better on the days when I take a break from the weird outfits.

Usually I'm not one to buy fandom merch, but these creepy deer won me over. If you're not familiar with Welcome to Night Vale, it's a free podcast about a fictional town in the desert where strange, unexplainable things are always happening. I highly recommend it if you're looking for something spooky and fun to listen to on your daily commute. It took me through countless long shuttle rides when I had my internship over the summer.

P.S. Sorry for the dodgy photo quality in these. Oncoming winter means that daylight is limited and even when it's light out, it can be cloudy and gross. There's only so much my little point-and-shoot can do!

~college fashionista~

So, uh, I guess I got featured in my school's style column? I busted out my best 70's goth outfit and awkward blogger pose for the occasion. You can see the actual post here, which includes a rare photo of me smiling. It was nice to have someone else take pictures of me for once, even if I'm a painfully awkward model! I'm really happy with this outfit, and my eyebrows look bitchin' (aka androgynous) to boot.

Pajama Party

Thrifted top, pants, and earrings; Topshop shoes

Here's an outfit from mid-october that I never posted. I'm really into how big my braid is when I wear my hair like this. I'm also into how these pants are pajamas but I can pretty much get away with wearing them in public.

Snug in Space

Dr. Martens boots, American Apparel disco pants, thrifted sweater, diy scarf, Illamasqua lipstick

Hi friends, it's been a while! While I was away I had some fun with my eyebrows. Unfortunately it's not really a sustainable look - apparently my eyebrows grow freakishly fast and they're so dark that they won't bleach much lighter than a buttery yellow. Still, the alien look is really fun and I'm glad I finally worked up the courage to try it!

I got these disco pants for my birthday in the summer and I'm smitten with them! They feel like leggings but look like a retrofuturistic space suit. They're good for winter days when I don't want to wear real clothes, especially if I throw on this massive sweater and my trusty boots. Cozy alien looks are essential for surviving Wisconsin winters while still looking fly (if I seem overdramatic about winter, it's because it snowed yesterday and I wasn't emotionally ready).

I know I haven't been keeping this blog strictly (or even primarily) about my outfits lately, but know that I have some outfit posts planned for the near future! Until then, here are some pictures of pretty things that I've stumbled across recently. Strange textures and eerie vibes are what I'm all about right now.

Saintly Death

1. I found the best/spookiest candle in the world! It says La Santisima Muerte, Saintly Death. My roommate picked it out for me and that's how I knew we were going to get along very well.

2. My favorite kind of manicure: high-impact, low-effort.

3. My go-to makeup look (when I'm not too lazy in the morning). Strong brows, dark lips, a bright pink flush, and loads of mascara. Messy hair and snake earrings a bonus. My Thor pez dispenser makes an appearance in the background (fun fact: I'm obsessed with Thor and I have pretty much no self control when it comes to Thor merchandise. I'm pretty upset that I left my plastic Thor helmet at home).

Isn't it nice to take a portrait every once in a while? It's pretty cool that I'm getting to the point where I can take photos of myself and like the way I look in pretty much all of them. It's so fun not to be camera-shy anymore! Now I'm just regular shy, which is okay with me.

I hope you all are well, and I hope you're brainstorming some brilliant halloween costume ideas! Now to get back to a towering pile of reading...

Recent Observations

1. Some of my delicate clothes being hand washed in the sink, resulting in an interesting pattern.

2. A bunny at the state fair that is my eyeliner inspo for fall

3. my current manicure. Peachy nude polish with a matte top coat that makes it look kind of like putty, almost kind of medical-looking if that makes sense? Accent nail is Sally Hansen Sugar Coat, which has the most amazing texture of any nail polish I've owned.

4. The sky at the state fair

I've just moved back into my room at school and started classes again. I'll hopefully get back to outfit photos soon, but for now here are some pictures I've taken recently. Good luck to everyone who's going back to school!

Birthday Dress

(Sorry for all the strangers in the background of this one, the park was kind of crowded.)

Yesterday was my 19th birthday! I celebrated by eating a lot of good food, finally seeing Pacific Rim, and drifting around Minnehaha Falls with my best friend. While I was there I ran into this cute outhouse and some nice purple wildflowers.

The dress I'm wearing here is several years old. It's Rodarte for Target, so it's from... 2009? 2010? I've worn it to a wedding, my high school graduation, at least one school dance, a halloween, and on a few regular days. It's fluffy and sweet and it's just one of those dresses that makes me feel happy, especially since there are so many memories attached to it. I paired it with some dark lipstick because I just feel wrong if I don't look a little spooky.

Pink and Green

These are the rest of the pictures I took on my trip that I wanted to share here. Pink with dark green is one of my favorite color combinations, so it's no surprise that I was drawn to those colors in my photos. This vacation has made me want to bring my camera everywhere. It's amazing how easy it is to take interesting photos when you have a camera with you all the time! You never know when you're going to stumble across something beautiful. That's photography 101 I guess but I'm still learning the basics.

1. My actual dream house in Kingston, Ontario
2. A closeup
3. Mist in the Catskills
4. A cross on my grandmother's wall
5. A new pair of shoes and my trusty Frida socks (taken by my sister)
6. Me wearing my grandmother's fur stole that she gave me while I was visiting (taken by my sister)
7. The nail polish that I picked off during a long car ride

Lepidoptera

I'm on vacation right now, so I thought I'd share my most aesthetically pleasing photos from the trip so far. It's interesting that when I compiled my favorite pictures, they ended up sticking to a color scheme. When I'm not taking pictures of my family I've been drawn to ethereal pastel colors and dreamy textures. Go figure, right?

Haunted Sister

Homemade harness, topshop shoes, everything else thrifted

I spent last Sunday being spooky in a local cemetery. It's a really peaceful, beautiful place to hang out. As you go farther back the graves get older and older, and some are so old that the engraving has worn off. The one in the fourth picture belonged to a civil war veteran. The mausoleums are so cool, but I've seen too many episodes of Buffy not to be a little creeped out by them.

I bought this little leather backpack for $3 a few weeks ago and it's become the most vital thing in my wardrobe. It's cute, practical, compact, and makes me feel like I'm going on an adventure every time I wear it! Small bags are essential to me since most of my clothes don't have pockets.

Today I'm on my way to New York! If you have any recommendations of a good place to go shopping/get shawarma in NYC, I'd love to hear them.

P.S. Thank you for all of your kind words about my last post! I got nothing but positive reactions (as I knew I would because you guys are all the best). The internet has the potential to be such a positive, powerful space and I love being reminded of that.
