The Things You Do Endear You To Me

For those of you who don't know, I play ukulele. It's the most fun instrument ever! I love how it's so cute, portable, and easy to play. It's also surprisingly versatile. A lot of Beatles songs sound really good when played on a uke, and Amanda Palmer did an entire album of ukulele covers of Radiohead songs. (I'd click that link if I were you. It's absolutely fantastic.) It just so happened that my uke looked good with my outfit today, so I thought I'd pull it out for some photos.

Forever 21 dress (worn as top), thrifted skirt, Mahalo ukulele, necklace with unknown origin

I love cat eyes. I do them all the time, but I found this tutorial that shows how to do them much better than I ever did. These ones are so adorable and '60s-licious, which makes them great to wear with this skirt! The same girl also does a great tutorial for the pigtails here. This style is perfect for my hair, since it involves messing it up with wild abandon. If there's anything I can do with my hair, it's to mess it up.

Right now I'm working on the song "I Will" by the Beatles. Who knows, maybe I'll post a video of it once I work out the kinks. All I want to do these days is sit on my balcony and play ukulele!

Hope you are all enjoying your summer!

Glam Rock

The other day I met some friends at the Java Train, a really excellent coffee shop/restaurant by my house. They have this amazing graffiti mural on the side of the building.
All the tables have huge rainbow umbrellas! They were reflecting onto every shiny surface and making some beautiful designs. I made Laura take this one of my sunglasses. I think it's fitting considering that the pride festival was going on at the time.
Snowflake the bunny! He is super cute. I had to put him in this post, even though the only picture we got of him includes me sneering unattractively.

Modcloth jacket, thrifted dress and sunglasses, Forever 21 pendants, Dr. Martens boots, purse from my mother with mysterious origin

I got this dress on a thrifting expedition because it gave off kind of a witchy vibe. I love the awkward shape and crushed velvet, even if it doesn't make it the best summer dress. I was going for a teen witch look when I get dressed this morning, but I threw on the band jacket and the docs and it ended up a little more rock n' roll. I'll admit that this outfit was kind of an excuse to wear most of my favorite items at once.

And in accordance with the title of this post, here is some David Bowie for you.

Hola Hola Coca Cola

Hello readers!

I created Cosmic Nonsense for two main reasons. The first is that I hope it will inspire me to dress up more often and be more creative with the clothes I wear. Second, I love the fashion community on the internet and wanted to become part of it.

This is what I look like:

I’ll warn you now, I’m not a very good model. My current strategy is to dance around like an idiot and have my sister Laura take pictures until we get some relatively non-hideous ones. This is her:

(Sorry for the image quality on the first one, she was squirming.) Laura is my photographer/style consultant/everything consultant. You’ll likely be seeing a lot of her on this blog because she is cheek-pinchingly adorable.

Anyway, this is just a quick introduction post. I’ll have some outfit shots up shortly.

Thanks for reading!

P.S. You may be wondering what "cosmic nonsense" means. To be honest, I just like the words.
