Some Things I Love

Hello, possums! I know I've been a bad blogger for the past few weeks. My absence can be explained by a number of things, most of which are boring. Now I'm back to my regularly scheduled internet narcissism! Yay! To start, I've made you a list of some of the silly things that I enjoy right now.

1: Polyvore
I've seen tons of bloggers make polyvore sets before, but I never tried it myself until very recently. It's ridiculously fun and strangely satisfying and it makes me want to cry when I think about how much time I've spent on it. It's also an excellent way to get out of an inspiration rut, because you have literally all the clothes on the internet at your disposal. You can make any outfit you want. It's magical. Here are the sets I've made so far.

2: Joanna Newsom
I dig this harp-playing squeaky-voiced maiden. I dig her a lot. When I first heard her voice I was turned off by it, but for whatever reason I was compelled to keep listening and soon I was hooked. She is a fantastic musician and lyricist with a unique voice that really grew on me. Her sound is so sweet and ethereal! Additionally, she is beautiful and has great style.

Also: add "harp" to the list of instruments I want to play. It's probably the most beautiful instrument ever.

3: Spirit Bears

I read an article in National Geographic last summer about these bears that live in the Great Bear Rainforest in British Columbia and immediately became obsessed. They're a species of black bear that for some reason have a recessive gene that makes some of them white. I think they're the most beautiful creatures ever! I recently did a project on them that made me fall in love all over again. I could just stare at these pictures forever! The fact that they live in a deep green moss-covered rainforest just makes the pictures all the more beautiful. I want to go live there and make some bear friends.

4: Tacky unicorns

I stumbled across the site unicornlady.net the other day, and it rules. It's as sketchy as it is hilarious. Beware, music automatically starts playing when you click the link. I personally think it adds to the experience. The awesome part is that it has a gallery of unicorn pictures to be used as wallpapers for your desktop. I love them. Behold:

As much as I laugh at the source, I have a completely non-ironic love of kitschy unicorn pictures. Especially the first one.

5: Excessive flowers
It's no secret that I love flowery things, since I wear them in pretty much every outfit. These are some of my favorite flower-filled images from my tumblr.

Yay pretty flowers!

6: Velvet

Velvet things are totally my jam right now. I recently bought two velvet things and plan to get at least to more. It's the perfect winter fabric; luxurious and pretty, but still soft and comfortable.

 Beautiful dress from ModCloth.

How dreamy are those leggings? I'm buying them as soon as possible.

And as if I didn't have enough reason to love Dr. Martens already, they make the most perfect boots ever.

Anyway, this has been my post about how much I love flowers and unicorns. I'll return soon with some pictures of my face and stuff. Until then, fare thee well!

Goth moment

Hello lovely readers! I'm sorry to say I've been on a brief blogging hiatus lately. Homework and laziness and life have taken a chunk out of my precious internet time. Slutwalk Minneapolis was last Saturday and I'm working on a post about it, but being the lazy blogger that I am, it'll probably be a bit delayed. In the meantime, I have a short outfit post for you!

Thrifted sweater, Mikkat Market top, forever 21 pants, thrifted shoes (Laura's), forever 21 claw necklace, random voodoo doll necklace

I got a lot of comments on how dark this outfit is. I usually wear more color, but I think it feels really special when I wear all black. I wouldn't want to do it every day, but it's fun to play with layers and textures all within a limited palette. I told people at school that I was having a goth moment, but really it's not so much goth as it is just dark. I like how I got my style to show a little bit in something that isn't as characteristic for me.

Laura bought these shoes for her homecoming dance and I think they are beautiful. They're a little beat up, but I think that adds to the appeal. The shape of the heel is so perfectly curvacious, and the flowery embroidery on the sides is purdy. Me gusta.

P.S. I've been really digging Fever Ray lately. Their music is super good, and their videos are deliciously creepy. I think they go quite well with this look.

Why don't you love me?

I love love love Beyonce's video for her song Why Don't You Love Me? It has exactly the sort of pinup aesthetic I'm trying to cultivate in my wardrobe.

I'm a Beyonce fan. She also looks great in Gaga's Telephone video, even if the video itself makes very little sense.

P.S. I'm off canoeing with my school right now, so this post and the next are scheduled. I'll be back with real time outfit posts soon! For now, I'm stuck with two outfits for four days. Neither of them are particularly attractive. Oh well.

Spektor

You know who has the best music videos? Regina Spektor, that's who.

Sadly, blogger isn't letting me post some of my favorites, but if you're interested you can check out "Fidelity" here and "Laughing With" here.

Florencepiration (HA)

I have a huge style crush on Florence Welch of Florence + The Machine. Nylon just put her on the cover, and it reminded me how much I love her. She seamlessly blends sweet vintage elements like peter pan collars and bows with flowy, ethereal pieces, and adds just enough modern edge to keep it interesting. For your viewing pleasure I have compiled a few (a lot) of my favorite pictures of her, as well as the music videos above. I am such a music video junkie, and she makes some of the best. Aside from being ridiculously stylish, she has a beautiful voice and a unique style of music. She and her band are incredibly talented! AHH RAVE RAVE RAVE

Glam Rock

The other day I met some friends at the Java Train, a really excellent coffee shop/restaurant by my house. They have this amazing graffiti mural on the side of the building.
All the tables have huge rainbow umbrellas! They were reflecting onto every shiny surface and making some beautiful designs. I made Laura take this one of my sunglasses. I think it's fitting considering that the pride festival was going on at the time.
Snowflake the bunny! He is super cute. I had to put him in this post, even though the only picture we got of him includes me sneering unattractively.

Modcloth jacket, thrifted dress and sunglasses, Forever 21 pendants, Dr. Martens boots, purse from my mother with mysterious origin

I got this dress on a thrifting expedition because it gave off kind of a witchy vibe. I love the awkward shape and crushed velvet, even if it doesn't make it the best summer dress. I was going for a teen witch look when I get dressed this morning, but I threw on the band jacket and the docs and it ended up a little more rock n' roll. I'll admit that this outfit was kind of an excuse to wear most of my favorite items at once.

And in accordance with the title of this post, here is some David Bowie for you.
