Part of my attempt to lead a positive, productive summer has been to keep consistently crafting. My most recent project was this harness made out of elastic and nylon washers. I've been lusting after harnesses from Zana Bayne, Chromat, and Hopeless Lingerie for over a year now, but I've always been too strapped for cash to spend that kind of money on a piece that I might be too timid to wear often. It took me forever, but I finally figured out that a simple elastic version of a harness would be an easy DIY project. $5 and an hour or so later, I had one. If you want to take a crack at this yourself, I recommend hand-sewing the elastic around the washers. I tried to use a machine, but it went wonky and I had to rip out a lot of tiny stitches.

The latest additions to my beloved denim jacket are embroidered constellations: gemini for my sister, and leo for me and both my parents. I'm excited to keep documenting the changes I make to this jacket. I have a lot more plans for it.

Excuse/enjoy my hilarious faces in these photos. I guess that's what my face looks like when I'm facing direct sunlight. I looked even more uncomfortable in one shot, but I decided to spare you guys that one.

I'm really pleased to feature this shirt on the blog again. I haven't posted it much, but it's one of my all-time favorite shirts. It always gets a lot of attention when I wear it, most of it positive. I found it in a thrift store a few years ago and was baffled and delighted by it, and I'm still in love with it years later.

When I bought this dress, it had shoulder pads, long sleeves, and an ankle-length skirt. As much as I liked the sexless Morticia Addams look, I'm happy with my decision to cut it short. Recently I've been gravitating towards black clothes and all-black outfits. It will be a fun challenge to try to style black clothes in interesting ways that still feel true to my style.

Sorry for the photo quality in this post. It was cloudy this morning and the lighting wasn't great, but I couldn't wait any longer to show off this outfit! This blouse has quickly become one of my favorite items of clothing. The print is everything I could have dreamed of, and the collar is perfectly '70s. There's a very similar one here if you want to be my twin.

After seeing this post on For Show, I immediately placed an order for this jumper and a peter pan collared blouse. I got them in a size 14 (as in children's size 14) and they fit perfectly. The sizing goes up to 20, so even smallish adult-sized people can enjoy wearing children's school uniforms! I would have thrown the biggest tantrum of my life if I had been made to wear uniforms as a little girl, and now I'm willingly buying and wearing them in everyday life. Funny how that works.

My last day of classes was yesterday and the weather is starting to get warmer! All I can think about are ice cream cones, laying in the grass, walking barefoot, giving sweaty hugs, and wearing inappropriately short shorts. I've never been more ready for summer.

These pictures were taken a few weeks ago, and I'm only getting around to posting them now. It's too bad I didn't buy this cookie monster jacket earlier, because it's starting to get too warm for it already. Enjoy these lunar vibes, and I hope the weather where you are is better than it is here! Moody weather is okay once in a while, but I feel like I'm withering a little without the sun.

Mysterious Jar of Teeth in Her Curio Cabinet

Hi friends! Thanks for being so patient with me while I navigate my second semester of college. I've had a lot on my plate both academically and emotionally, so I haven't been able to post much. Everything thrifted/secondhand/DIY

I kind of have this recurring character that I sometimes picture in my head when I'm putting an outfit together. She's an old woman who is eccentric but really sweet, and she likes to invite you over for cookies and tea. Once you've been to her house a few times you start to notice that there's something a little strange about her. Maybe she has a mysterious jar of teeth in her curio cabinet next to her ceramic rabbit figurines, or has one too many taxidermy animals for your comfort. Something about her always looks a little bit off, and beneath her grandmotherly smile you can tell that she has a secret. I try to emulate this sense of sweetness with an unsettling undertone by wearing your standard old lady thrift store clothes with a bunch of accessories that look like body parts.

This blouse was a find from my local salvation army, a place I like to go as a way to escape my tiny campus every once in a while. It had long, puffy sleeves when I bought it, and it didn’t have teeth embroidered on the front (if you didn’t already guess). I’m experimenting with fixing the sleeves, and the teeth were my most recent embroidery project. I’ve talked about this before, but I’ll say it again: it’s so satisfying to put work into a thrifted garment to really make it special to you. I know that once I figure out the sleeves on this thing (they were covered by a sweater for a reason), it’ll become one of my most treasured pieces. I really feel a sense of pride in knowing that I’ve created a special and loved piece of clothing out of someone’s cast-off.
