Blouse and velvet skirt: American Apparel, thrifted sweater, Illamasqua lipstick
I'm becoming A Person Who Wears American Apparel. These are my only two pieces from that brand, but it seems somehow like cheating at fashion to wear them in the same outfit. I really don't like wearing two things from the same brand at one time, especially one as ubiquitous as American Apparel. Then again, I like this outfit, so whatever.
I love the ghostly flowers on this shirt. The fashion world is so oversaturated with floral prints that even I was starting to get bored of them, and half my wardrobe is floral. I like that this print has the grandma factor of your average floral print but also looks a little ethereal and spooky.

I got this vintage skirt for christmas from my parents (I may or may not have sent them a link). When it came, it turned out it was a little too big, so I got it tailored. It made me think about how much I love having clothes that are one-of-a-kind and customized to fit me perfectly (usually I prefer to do the tailoring myself, but I didn't want to mess up the accordion pleats on this skirt). I'm slowly but surely building a wardrobe that is completely perfect for me, in terms of both fit and aesthetic.
I kind of felt like a creepy porcelain doll in this outfit. The colors and textures look old and musty, but the silhouette is childlike. dualitieeeeeeees
P.S. How many times have I used the word "aesthetic" in my last few posts? A really annoying number, I'm sure. My bad.
Sometime during the past few years, my sister took an interest in the occult. She has a set of runes, countless books about magic, and has been known to collect a sample of the first rain in spring for spell-related purposes. I love borrowing her books and having my future told with runes (sadly, they don't foresee a marriage to Tom Hiddleston), so when she asked for a set of Robin Wood's tarot cards for christmas I was happy to oblige. When she opened them up, I was struck by how beautiful they were! I scanned a few of my favorites because they are rife with ~magickal vibes.

I've had this jacket for a long time, but I haven't worn it for a while. I decided to make it more interesting by sewing an Olivia Mew patch on the back and making my own embroidered patches for the sleeves. I want to keep adding to it indefinitely, so it changes and grows along with my aesthetic. I like the idea of having the standard denim jacket covered in patches, but one that's perfectly suited to me.
If you like Meadham Kirchhoff, I highly recommend going to your nearest craft store/dollar store to check out the valentine's day merch. I bought a ton of these doilies because they reminded me of their spring 2012 collection (also because I like to hoard pretty craft supplies).
One of my favorite christmas presents from my parents. I've already worn through two pairs of saddle-esque shoes from cheap stores, so I thought I would spring for some higher-quality ones that might last longer. I like that these are red, and so shiny!

This purple lipstick from Illamasqua is the best makeup investment of my life. It can make a relatively boring outfit look so much more special. Same goes for this necklace, which I fashioned out of an old hair extension and some thrift store ribbon. Is it gross to keep my old hair extensions for crafting purposes? What about wisdom teeth? I'm disgusting oh well
It seems like I can only take blog pictures after midnight anymore. It's finals week for me, so of course I'm spending my time taking selfies. My best friend is coming to visit later today, then a few days later I leave for winter break. When I get back to school I'm moving into a house full of feminist ladies (and possibly one dude?), so that's cool. I hope everyone is feeling the holiday spirit (read: eating yummy food) and having a lovely winter so far!

I took these photos late last night in a sudden burst of creativity. I deleted my tumblr recently in hopes that I would spend my time more productively. It hasn't completely worked, but I'm slowly starting to spend more time on my creative pursuits. I'm trying to teach myself guitar, improve my embroidery, and experiment with photography. Then again, I'm also spending more time tweeting and trolling etsy. Baby steps, I guess.

I've been sitting on these photos since mid-october and I'm not sure why I haven't posted them yet. This outfit was inspired by my teen witch craze that happens every october, but also by the short story The Sisterhood of Night by Steven Millhauser. It's about teenage girls in a secret society (so of course I'm obsessed with it), but it's also about a lot of other things. I highly recommend reading it if you can get your hands on a copy of the book it's published in, The Knife Thrower and Other Stories.
I know I'm kind of late jumping on this bandwagon, but I'm really drawn to the music and videos of First Aid Kit. They capture the melancholy of fall really well. I'm so fascinated by the forests and nature imagery in their videos and their chilling acoustic songs.
I guess the running theme in this post is mystery. I'm so fascinated by mysterious things, like dark forests and secret societies and teenagers. Maybe that has to do with the season, or the uncertainty that I'm experiencing right now. Either way, I want to swath myself in gauzy black fabric and paint my face with purple lipstick and be a mysterious witch woman. I'll end with this perfect quote I found on Celia's blog around halloween sometime.
